There are 3 main driving forces behind the rapid growth of ADAS.
First of all, the market has a strong demand for ADAS. With the development of automobile industry, traditional passive safety technology, such as seatbelt and air bag, can not meet the needs of more safe and comfortable travel for consumers. Because the passive safety system mainly protects the drivers and passengers after the accident. Although it can effectively reduce the casualties in the traffic accident with the help of related technologies, it can not fundamentally solve the problem.
In comparison, ADAS uses sensors installed around the car body to collect information about the environment inside and outside the car, helps the driver to detect the danger as early as possible, and takes corresponding measures, even the system actively intervenes in the control of the car, which can reduce the occurrence of accidents from the source, and has become the focus of the market in recent years.
According to the survey data of Roland Berger, 41% of the participants regard ADAS / automatic driving function as the bonus item affecting the decision-making of car purchase, while 45% of the participants regard ADAS / automatic driving as the element influencing the decision-making of car purchase. It can be seen that consumers are gradually taking ADAS as an important decision-making factor for future car purchase. In another Roland Berger survey of Chinese consumers, up to 68% of the participants thought they needed ADAS / autopilot.
Secondly, the policy level has many advantages in the development of ADAS. In order to improve the operation safety of vehicles, the state is carrying out compulsory installation of some ADAS functions. For example, in the technical conditions for the safety of operating buses issued in March 2017, it was clearly proposed that the operating buses over 9 meters should be equipped with LDW and FCW, while the operating buses that meet the requirements of the specification should be installed with AEB system on April 1, 2019. The technical conditions for the safety of operating trucks issued in 2018 stipulates that FCW, LDW and AEB shall be installed on some trucks.
In the field of passenger vehicles, relevant organizations have gradually realized the importance of ADAS and given positive guidance. For example, in the 2018 version of C-NCAP, two safety tests "Pedestrian protection test" and "AEB test" have been added at the same time, which means that if the later new cars want to get the highest score in the collision test, they must do a good job in the research and development of related technologies. It is predicted that in the future, both domestic and global, the requirements for vehicle intelligent safety technology will be higher and higher.
Moreover, the rapid development of ADAS technology has also injected strong growth momentum into the market. In particular, camera, millimeter wave radar and other sensors, as well as vehicle chips and algorithms, have significantly improved compared with the previous. Taking millimeter wave radar as an example, at present, domestic ADAS enterprises have made breakthroughs in the technology of 24GHz and 77GHz millimeter wave radar, among which the 24GHz millimeter wave radar has achieved mass production, and the 77GHz millimeter wave radar mass production project is also under intense promotion.
